Pathology
Request Image Capture System - benefits
Productivity benefits commence when pathology requests can be delivered directly into the Laboratory workflow directly from the point of specimen collection.
RICS provides many benefits in optimizing data entry and dramatically reducing test interpretation data entry errors via a double blind rapid data entry methodology. RICS optimizes laboratory analysis throughput via broadcasting to the automation systems - a significant new capability.
The RICS systems architecture is simple, yet comprehensive - You won't lose Requests and you can track them through the workflow. You'll know by whom and when they were scanned - so you'll also know when the specimen was taken. There are many quantifiable benefits and many other significant but not as readily quantifiable, such as being able to see how many Requests have been processed at a collection centre by 11am that morning. RICS really drives efficiency gains and saves you a lot of money.
Data entry is stymied if the image quality is poor! With RICS, image quality is exceptional at 8 bit quality (an image of about 7MB uncompressed), yet at only 1 bit file size, that's about 120k in file size. Even if the patient crumpled the Request form, it will still be able to be read! So, unlike fax quality images (standard 1 bit), with a RICS image you can always undertake data entry into your Laboratory Information System, yet your network bandwidth is not jammed with unnecessarily large files. Delivering this information into a real-time workflow and worklist prioritization provides unprecedented further efficiencies.
Below is a list of just some of the benefits provided by RICS. For a more detailed RICS benefits overview please view our pdf.
- 15% labour costs savings (data entry, specimen reception and laboratory personnel). i.e. without taking into account any automation integration
- Eliminate Data Entry Bottlenecks
- Eliminate Specimen Reception Area manual handling
- Achieve a paperless environment
- Data entry commences long before specimen reaches the lab
- Data entry errors are captured & corrected before entering the lab
- Integrated and broadcasts to Automation Laboratory Analytical Systems
- Workflow scheduling improves lab efficiencies - professional lab staff know what's coming and when
- Laboratory staff now more productive (worklists, paperless, prioritisation)
- Pathology forms are electronically archived in the secure RICS or Laboratory system data base
- No fax call costs required
- No photocopying - often a large expense
